Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland #4317 - Peacock - Ca 1910

Peacocks, parrots and porcelain.

In 1901 Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland started the "Porselein" decoration series, also known as P-decor, in order to compete with the success Rozenburg achieved on the Word Exhibition in Paris in 1900 with the egg-shell porcelain.
In a sales catalogue of 1909 the decoration number 304 was mentioned for the first time, introduced by W. Hartgring, with naturalistic painted flower and bird decorations, the only decoration number that, according to the catalogue, was ment to be executed exclusively by artists, in this case
Leendert Muller (1879-1969).
The decoration of this vase, carrying model number 226 was situated in the highest price-range, and costed fl. 33.50 at the time.

The vase, 67 cm tall is one of the best thinkable examples.
Every inch has been painted with the utmost attention.
The peacock with the deep blue feathers, following the form of the vase, situated in the landscape with whimsical branches, colorful flowers, sharp hatchings and numerous circled green dots give the whole a fairytale effect.

In short, a Dutch Art Nouveau Vase of the highest level!
